The main concept that distinguishes limousines is a driver’s compartment, which is separated from the passenger’s compartment. A limousine has a divider to accomplish this. The first limousine was developed in 1902. Ever since, the limousine has become a popular car for many people and occasions.

Evolution

The earliest limousines were normal cars with two different compartments with some extra seats fitted into them. The stretch concept appeared in limousines in 1928, and its creators were Armbruster. The uses for stretch limousines were to carry band instruments along with the big band players, and the limousines were originally called “Big Band Buses.”

Very popular and rich people then started using limousines. Slowly, the car gained fame and became a popular option. Only the rich and powerful rode in limousines. The U.S. president Calvin Coolidge rode in a limousine.

The use of limousines resulted in a process where normal cars became limousines through a conversion process. Lengthening the wheelbase and more frameworks built onto the original car, with more doors and more seats, could create a limousine from a normal car. After the 90s, limos slowly became regularly used cars. They became the symbolic vehicle for arriving at a funeral or wedding. The color of limos also started to attain symbolism, and most limos started being either white or black in color.

Limousines gradually became a form of business. Owners of car rental companies would buy cars from the market and modify them with enlarged framework and other items that would convert the car into a limo. Inclusion of some luxury features along with designer doors and windows will create a limousine. After this, the limousines then are ready for operation. People will rent the limousines for their special occasions, and the company will make a profit on rentals.

The affordability soon changed as people with a moderate amount of money started modifying their own cars into limousines. In addition, the limousines started to get progressively longer.

The limos of today

Today, limos are commonly use in most developed countries. The luxury that limos provide customers is unprecedented; people even install hot tubs into limos. Even though limousines started as carriers of band equipment and members, they ended up being the ultimate luxury car available. The limos that are available today range from sitting three passengers to 16 passengers. Now, they even modify buses into limos, which can carry 18 to 20 passengers.

The concept of the driver’s separation, though, has not changed; this factor helps classify them as limousines. What most limousines include today are bars, televisions and sound systems. There are also some security improvements such as bulletproof doors and windows, and anti-explosive armor.

The future of limousines seems to be changing; its status of being only for the powerful might be evolving. It no longer symbolizes the power of its passenger; in some places, it symbolizes an important occasion and nothing else. Limousines may end up like extinct dinosaurs, or become the bird descendants of dinosaurs, which are commonplace.

From what I know, I can define a limousine as a stretched luxury car. This car is a prestigious car that is used by many to travel to events, showing class and even power. The car can carry up to nine, and sometimes more, passengers. Its stretch nature allows the car to have enough room for passengers and other items. There are many designs of limousines. The most popular make of limousines is the luxury stretch, which looks like a saloon car. This car is strong and very fast. The car is also extremely comfortable and makes a certain social statement.

I have heard many stories and read many books claiming that limousines used to be considered gangsters cars belong to people who have privileged lives. This is because the car used to be relatively expensive. The car was only custom made if you placed an order to have the car specifically designed. In the past, only gangsters had money to do such things. The car was also a social identifier, representing people who had money for luxury items. Those who were privileged in society also had money to have these limos custom made to their liking.

In addition, Norton associated limousines with blood money, and crimes around the world. Of course, this is not the case. People with little money and could not afford to custom design limos fabricated these rumors. In addition, today one will find people who spread rumors about someone because of his or her success. In the past, money was very hard to acquire, but there those who were “lucky” had large amounts of wealth, and could afford luxury items. As a show of their class and power in society, some people purchased limos. One could not see an ordinary person or an average person traveling in a limousine.

I have seen firsthand the evolution of these cars, from their past as luxury and status vehicles to being a common car that any person can afford. This has been propelled by the production of the car by many car manufacturing companies. This car has become so common that now it used as a rental car. This does not take away its prestigious class and the sophistication that the car offers. I have ridden in limos before, and I can attest to the car’s comfort, and the class the car has. While you are inside the car, you feel as you are seated in an airplane’s first-class compartment. You will find that these cars operate from most of the big airports as rental cars or taxis.

Many prefer other cars for car services. In truth, I prefer to ride inside a limo than any other car. Advancements in technology have made them more comfortable and easy to accommodate accessories that make them more enjoyable. In addition, I am more comfortable with the high privacy that the cars offer. You do not have to worry about people seeing you or your driver listening in on your conversations.

Late last year, I had an experience with a limo service company that I will always remember. This was during the opening of my new office. Business was expanding. This meant that I had to purchase a bigger, new office, and I did this without hesitation. I completed everything that needed attention concerning the new office. Of course, I could not move in without first throwing a party for my friends, clients and affiliates to celebrate the new development.

I needed a means of transportation to the venue for my affiliates. This caused me to seek the services of a limo company. This was necessary to build my reputation and to celebrate the occasion. I wanted a luxurious mode of transport for my affiliates. This was why the services of a limousine company were most appropriate. The thought of putting my affiliates in a taxi would jeopardize the image of my business.

When I approached the car service company, I could not believe the options and affordability. The price was so affordable, and the provider offered me great discounts. I settled on a black Mercedes that looked spectacular, even based only on the outward appearance. The advantage of these limousine services is the fact that they assign a professional chauffer. This means that you avoid the hassle of having to drive by yourself or looking for a chauffeur.

We set off with my chauffer to a hotel in the city where we agreed to meet with the affiliates before proceeding to my new office. I could not believe the relaxing I experienced in the car. With its comfortable leather seats and the air conditioning system, it was so comfortable. The vehicle was exceeding 60 mph, but the drive was so smooth that I could not believe that the vehicle was moving so quickly. In fact, I almost fell asleep!

This vehicle can move at thrilling speeds but remain stable on the road. We arrived at the hotel where I was to meet my affiliates in only a few minutes. The drive that I assumed would take us fifteen minutes took exactly six minutes, how incredible! My affiliates were amazed at the mode of transportation that I had chosen for them. I was satisfied with these events and their reaction. This meant I was sending a positive message concerning the image of my business.

They entered the limo and sat comfortably in the stretched vehicle. They could not help complementing on the inner workings of the car. I was relaxed since I knew that this was a first impression that would last, thanks to the limousine. We got to my office with my guests looking as fresh as when they entered the limo, despite the hot weather on the day of the party. The limo defies weather conditions. It provides a cooling system when it is hot and heaters on a cold day. To this day, my party is still remembered by my friends and clients due to the limo ride. Thanks to the limo, the event was magical.

Ever since the appearance of the first limousines in the automotive industry in the 19th century, they have been typically reserved for people in high social classes. They have been in use for special events such as public appearances and in carrying unique people, like state presidents and country diplomats. Many changes have occurred in those previous limos like the introduction of new amenities such as classy seats, more safe and reliable technology, and visual and auditory devices (TVs and radio). The above changes show that limousines are special, extraordinary, luxurious cars used for extraordinary occasions.

In addition, the important changes that have occurred in these cars are shifts in the attitudes of companies that provide limousine hire services. As shown above, limousine hire services were only available and affordable for people in higher social classes. That is quickly fading, and the market is opening up to consumers thought to belong to third world countries (developing nations). Thus, the limousine hiring companies have changed and reshaped their approach and service delivery.

Today, in most developing economies that have a strong desire for a better lifestyle and economic power has made limo services available, which is a new occurrence. Hiring a limo today is not something extraordinary or reserved for the wealthy. Today, it is possible to spot common people seeking services of limousines for their special occasions such as birthday parties, wedding receptions or on corporate meetings. The widening scope of possible customers has caused the ever-increasing competition between limos companies to increase exponentially in the last few decades. This has resulted in more innovation and research. This is evident when we check internet sites that those various companies have. The focus of these companies is to increase quality, ensure security of chauffeurs and improve services rendered. It is also possible to directly and easily communicate with, book, and hire limos online.

The above positive changes of limousine companies seen today show how they are concerned with targeting the ever-increasing market. Limousine hiring companies are providing superior services when compared to those in past twenty years. This has led to companies that provide good quality services at affordable prices to many people (competitive prices). This shows steps to fuel the global economy in general and provides lucrative recreational ventures. This is commonly referred to as democratization of universal resources and services that results in increased economical business sources compounded with a vast and increasing number of consumers; this concept also explains the relationship between supply and demand.

In the near future, the limo business must continue with the current feature developments that we are now observing. Limo companies should also ensure that they accommodate other possible improvements that would enhance better service delivery. The new features to be development and incorporated should be built on interaction and collaboration of multiple parties. This should include the stakeholders to ensure a mutual agreement between the service providers and the customers, regardless of social status. In conclusion, limousine service providers are facing the challenge of trying to offer everyone an opportunity to hire a limo, transforming the previous notion of limos as cars for rich and privileged people.

One of my most shocking experiences happened last year when I attended a meeting at the Starlace Hall in Safforey. There were four representatives coming to the meeting, each from different branch of the business. I was representing my branch. The CEO, who represented the same office as I did, attended for an overview of the budget reports for each branch. Many other employees who were involved with the financial management sector also attended, as they assisted the representatives—the branch managers—to produce their versions of the report and explain them. The night was very important for me; it was my first official, annual meeting at the legendary Starlace Hall of the head office.

I was a little intimidated by the importance of this meeting. I kept in mind that if anything went wrong, it could mean a demotion from my position as branch manager. I feared losing the position; such posts change quickly, especially because of the perfectionism that one must achieve to hold the position.

To plan the day, I called my friend John who came by to give me some suggestions, two days before the meeting. The few suggestions he made had really impressed me. “If there is no way to avoid a situation, you will have to make the best of it.” This statement influenced me to follow John’s further suggestions. All of his suggestions later worked out. However, one of those recommendations produced an unexpected result. John suggested that I should hire a limo to attend the meeting. According to him, “One’s entrance can intimidate others.” I did not understand this initially, but I followed the suggestion.

I did as John recommended. I searched the internet and found the number for a car rental company that was nearby. I called the company and asked them to provide a nice limo suitable for attending a meeting; with two days left, I did not take the time to choose a car.

Soon, the day of the meeting arrived. The limo managed to reach my house by 5:00 in the afternoon. When I looked carefully, I realized that I had hired an extended Cadillac CTS, which explained why it had cost me nearly a quarter of my monthly salary!

I left in the limo at 6:00 from home. I slowly understood why limos were considered luxury cars. The seats, the cushions, and the lights were all fantastic. It was my first time as a branch manager, and the car suited me well. I was expecting to make an entrance that would draw people’s attention to me. There were employees from different branches and other representatives whom I had not yet met. It would be exciting to make a good, first impression.

The meeting was scheduled for 8:00 pm, and I was running late. When I finally reached the venue, the head office, I was relaxed. My confidence grew as I saw many other people waiting at the entrance to greet the CEO. Before I realized it, the driver approached the front gate of the office and, for unknown reasons, the gates opened without the guard questioning who I was.

The driver stopped the car at the main entrance where the other representatives were waiting for the CEO to arrive. They started to cheer at the car. They thought that I was the CEO! I felt like shouting that “The CEO does not have a Cadillac!” I was misidentified because of the limo, just like an innocent who faces conviction. The reason for this confusion was because I was riding in a Cadillac CTS, something that is unaffordable by most branch managers.

I got out of the car. A faint and disappointed smile was on my face. My coworkers from the same branch identified me. They slowly started to laugh. The humor grew as soon as the misunderstanding was explained. The entire situation was one mutual joke! I laughed at them, and they laughed at me. Now I understood what John had meant about making an entrance, even though I was embarrassed. However, my embarrassment diminished because “They clapped at the Limo, not me.” The Cadillac CTS was an excellent car.
